Robert F. Smith has practiced law in his hometown of Florence, Alabama, since 1984. He earned his law degree from Cumberland School of Law in 1984 after receiving an undergraduate degree from The University of North Alabama in 1981. Mr. Smith is very active in professional associations in the area of Divorce and Family Law. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and has served as Chair of the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar. He is supports the Alabama Child Support Association. Mr. Smith is a frequent speaker on the subject of Divorce and Family Law at conferences nationwide and abroad. In 2012 Mr. Smith was named “Lawyer of the Year” by the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar.In 2015 Mr. Smith was named "Lawyer of the Year" by the Alabama Child Support Association.As a complement to his law practice Mr. Smith is under contract to prosecute child support enforcement cases for the Lauderdale County, Alabama District Attorney's office. The DA’s office represents IV-D clients for the Alabama Department of Human Resources.Mr. Smith is active in many professional and civic organizations. He has help raise scholarship dollars for local students to attend both UNA and Auburn University.Mr. Smith is past President of the University of North Alabama national alumni association. He helped raise money for student academic scholarships. He helped establish the "Phon-A-thon" that is used by the UNA Foundation to support UNA.He is an active member of the Auburn University Alumni Association and serves on the Executive Committee of the Shoals Area Auburn Club as Scholarship Chair. He is a Tigers Unlimited member since 2004.Mr. Smith enjoys golf, sailing, Gulf Shores and following the Auburn Tigers & UNA Lions.
Michael W. Hasty
In 1996, Mr. Hasty joined the Law Office of Robert F. Smith and is currently Legal Assistant and Case Manager for the firm. He is involved in the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar as a non-lawyer and has been recognized for his service to the Section.Mr. Hasty was born and raised in Linden, Alabama. He graduated from Marengo Academy in 1986. While attending Marengo Academy he was elected as President of his Senior Class. He was elected 5 years as Student Representative to the Student Government Association. He played Football, baseball and basketball. He was a starter on the 1983 State Championship teams of Football and Baseball. He was selected Student Athlete of the Year in 1986. He was a member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society.He entered Auburn University and graduated in 1991 earning a B.S. degree majoring in Marketing and a minor in Psychology. While at Auburn, he pledged and was active in Beta Theta Pi national social fraternity. He was active in UPC, Big Brothers & Big Sisters Program, Special Olympics, Student Government Association and a volunteer for many children's programs. He was the most enthusiastic Auburn student on campus.Mr. Hasty's is actively involved in the Auburn National Alumni Association. Beginning 2007 he served as the President of the Shoals Area Auburn Club until 2017. Through his leadership the club has received numerous national awards and is always ranked as one of the top clubs in the country. In 2009 he was selected as national "Club Leader of the Year" by Auburn Alumni Association. There are over 100 Auburn Alumni clubs in the nation. Due to his leadership the Shoals Area Auburn Club endowed a scholarship for local students to attend Auburn University. Through many fund-raising projects the club has raised over $250,000 net in ten years. This is the third largest endowed Club scholarship fund in the Auburn Alumni Association. In 2017 he was honored by the Shoals Area Auburn Club with the establishment of the “Michael W. Hasty Endowed Scholarship”. It was fully funded within one year with over $26,000 and is still growing. In 2015 he was inducted into the "1856 Society of Auburn University". In 2018 he was inducted into the “Samford Society of Auburn University”. He is a member of "Tigers Unlimited", scholarship donor and an avid supporter of Auburn Athletics. He is active in the Shoals, Alabama community as a leader, contributor and volunteer. He is devoted to philanthropic endeavors including the Women's Philanthropy Board of Auburn where he is a PHIL, Aids Action Coalition, Equality Alabama, Human Rights Campaign, University Club of Auburn, Krewe de Tigris, Auburn University Club and others. He enjoys travel, beach, sailing and attending Auburn Athletic events.
